Two calendars: a solar date and its lunar calendar equivalent

Gregorian to Hijri for a birthday or event

Start with the complete Gregorian date, including its year. A birthday written as 7 April is not enough: 7 April in two different years normally falls on different Hijri days. The tool opens with Monday, 2 November 2026, which is 22 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH for Saudi Arabia. Replace that date with the day on your certificate, invitation or diary, then press Convert date. The result stays beside the form, so you can check another date without opening another page.

Before converting Gregorian to Hijri, choose the country whose calendar matters to your event. For a family record from Pakistan, a Saudi calendar may not be the appropriate basis. Keep the result’s status with the date when you copy it. An announced month start and a provisional calculated month start are different kinds of evidence, even when their displayed dates happen to agree.

A Gregorian to Hijri birthday lookup answers which Islamic date a birth fell on. It does not calculate a person’s age in lunar years, and it does not promise that the next Gregorian birthday will have that same Hijri date. Write down both complete dates if your family marks both anniversaries. For an evening birth, also keep the place and time: the religious day begins at sunset, while this civil-date tool changes its displayed date at midnight.

Which Hijri years does a Gregorian year span?

A Gregorian year and a Hijri year do not start together. Most Gregorian years overlap parts of two Hijri years; occasionally a Gregorian year can include parts of three. Check the first and last Gregorian dates of the period rather than adding a fixed number to the year. Converting 1 January tells you the starting Hijri year, while converting 31 December tells you the ending Hijri year. Neither result alone describes every day between them.

For example, a school year, work contract or travel plan may cross 1 Muharram even though its Gregorian year number never changes. Use Gregorian to Hijri separately for the start and end. If you need all the dates between them, open the full-year daily table. The year calendar is better for comparing month lengths and major dates; the daily table is better for matching a specific date in a list.

The Hijri calendar has twelve lunar months, usually totalling 354 or 355 days. The Gregorian year has 365 or 366 days. That difference makes a recurring Hijri occasion move roughly 10 or 11 days earlier against the Gregorian calendar each year. Gregorian to Hijri conversion therefore needs the actual year and month starts. Subtracting 622 from a Gregorian year is only a rough historical shortcut, never a way to obtain an exact Hijri day.

Gregorian to Hijri: country, sunset and one-day differences

The same Gregorian date can have a different Hijri date in another country because the beginning of a lunar month may follow a different announcement or calculation. This site first uses the selected country’s recorded month starts. Where a confirmed start is unavailable, the page uses its labelled provisional calculation. A provisional result is useful for planning, but it should not be presented as a moon-sighting announcement.

Saudi Arabia uses the Umm al-Qura civil calendar, while religious months can be confirmed by official announcement. Indonesia’s government uses Kemenag’s calendar and sidang isbat for Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah. Pakistan follows local sighting announcements through the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. These examples explain why a country selector matters; they do not create one permanent offset between the countries. A one-day difference may disappear at a later month start.

For a future wedding invitation or a likely Ramadan date, label the Hijri result as provisional until the relevant authority confirms the month. For a past event, look for the announcement or calendar that was actually used in that place and year. If two tools disagree, compare their country, calendar basis and day boundary before assuming a conversion error. A manual day adjustment helps compare a known local difference, but does not itself verify the date.

Gregorian to Hijri questions about your date

Can I find the Hijri date of my birth?

Yes, when the full Gregorian birth date falls within the date range shown by the input. Select the relevant country first. Treat a provisional result as an estimate and compare it with the family’s original record if an exact historical date matters.

Will my Gregorian birthday keep the same Hijri date?

Usually no. Lunar and solar years have different lengths, so the date moves through the Hijri calendar. Convert the actual Gregorian birthday in each year you want to compare. A lunar birthday follows a different anniversary schedule.

Can I convert a date in the future?

Yes, within the supported range, but future dates can remain provisional. The tool provides a planning date under the selected country table. Check the later local announcement before using it for fasting, Eid or another religious observance.

Why do two Gregorian to Hijri results differ by a day?

Their month starts, country basis or sunset convention may differ. Match all three before comparing the numbers. This tool reads a civil Gregorian date; a religious event after sunset may belong to the following Hijri day in local practice.
